Friends
The Friends of the Quechee Library are integral to the vitality of this community facility. Led by an active steering committee that meets the second Tuesday of each month at 3 p.m., the Friends provide several types of enrichment. An annual appeal is made each May for dues paying members, and any member is invited to attend the monthly meeting or offer suggestions. E-mail the Friends for more information.
A music committee under Friends’ auspices offers concerts. Much of the Library’s shelving was built by Gerry Homer through donated time (and skill) and Friends’ materials. A high percentage of the Library programming is supported by the Friends, whether through funding of programs or hands-on efforts such as offering annual ornament-making workshops for children.
Friends are the primary source of the volunteers who staff the circulation desk and perform many other duties at the Library. They sponsor many events such as the September 2005 “birdhouse” auction and birding talk.
Friends also develop and market many items to sell as gifts that serve the dual purpose of pleasing a recipient with a “Quechee” present and supporting the library.
Friends Meeting/Watercolor Demonstration
Wednesday, May 28, 6 p.m. the Friends will hold their annual meeting. All are invited to enjoy refreshments, elect the slate of officers, and then watch and listen as Susan Pecora paints a watercolor of Quechee Main Street. Through a gift from Gladys Sullivan, the Friends are hosting this event which brings Ms. Pecora here to create a painting that will belong to the library and can be used however the Friends wish. Susan Pecora has taught at the Museum of Fine Arts in Springfield, Massachusetts, and instructed a television audience on “Reflections Through Watercolor” on the western New England PBS affiliate.
